Product Description
The name of the wine Metron Ariston, meaning ‘moderation is best’ implies the avoidance of extremes in the lives of human beings. It expresses the pursuit of the Golden Mean and Harmony in the majority of human activities.
The saying ‘metron ariston’ is attributed to Cleobulus of Rhodes, one of the seven sages of Greece. It has the same meaning as the other maxim ‘meden agan’ (‘nothing in excess’) carved on the entrance of the temple of Apollo in Delphi.

The Papantonis Winery was established in 1992 by brother and sister Anthony and Kallie Papantonis. The winery is located within the city of Argos about 15 km from the vineyard. The Papantonis vineyard consists of 20 acres planted in 1982 after extensive research. They chose the ideal fertile land located within the small village of Malandreni, in the high lands of the province of Argolis and within Greece's best vinticultural producing region of Nemea to develop their vineyard.
Their estate is located at an altitude of 320 meters above sea level within the steep hills and deep valleys of Nemea, a region which boasts an ideal local microclimate (dry hot days and cool moist nights) for growing the most exquisite varieties of grapes – Agiorgitiko or Saint George, and Roditis among them. The soil is sandy clay with unique draining properties allowing for the slow maturity of our grapes. This combination provides an optimum environment for this grape variety, which is renowned for its excellent wine producing characteristics.
