Brettos

The world famous Ouzo Brettos is our best seller distilled product. It is produced according to the exact same recipe our grand father, Michael Brettos, used back in 1909. A recipe which, combined with special aromatic herbs and anise, creates one of the best ouzo in Greece.

In our traditional distiller, alcohol and water are kept for hours with seeds, local aromatic herbs and plants along with the famous Greek anise and the unique mastic from the island of Chios. This liquor is then distilled slowly and carefully and is subject to continuous tests. Before ending up in bottles, our ouzo is diluted with soft water coming from the best Greek fountains so that it obtains the desired alcoholic strength.

Ouzo Brettos is one of the smoothest and most mellow ouzo because its ingredients are still as pure and of high quality as they have been for years. Its long tradition and expertise transmutes anise and all other herbs in a drink that brings joy and relaxation.

Best Served: Plain or with water and ice. You can also enjoy it with orange juice or in a cocktail.

Tip: First ouzo is served, then cold water and ice are added. In this way ouzo does not cool down suddenly, there is no crystallization of aniseed or ethereal oils and its flavour is not altered.

Brettos Liquors is the oldest distillery in Athens. It started operating for the first time back in 1909 at the ground level of an Athenian old mansion in the heart of Plaka. At those premises, his founder Michael Brettos, started producing ouzo using the very first, hand-made, ouzo distiller. Today nothing has changed in the traditional distillery and in the fascinating distillation process and production. The respect to the past together with the fact that our production remains small, keeps our quality in a very high standard and makes our ouzo really rare and distinctive.
